Scavenger hunts, playgrounds and math outside

Monday the clouds went away and so did our less than wonderful moods. You really have to try to be in a bad mood when the sun is shining, the birds are singing and the temperatures are in the 60's and 70's. On Monday we went to the Perkins Museum of Geology at the University of Vermont. I had no idea it existed until just recently. The kids did a geology scavenger hunt and then we picnicked outside. It was too glorious a day to be inside so we headed over to a friend's house for an afternoon of
outdoor fun.

Tuesday we met some friends for a picnic at North Beach in Burlington. The kids had a great time playing on the play structures.

Today we did a nature scavenger hunt at the meadows and wetlands behind our house. Anyone know what that triangular thing is???

And then there was some long division (it's a lot more fun outside with chalk!)

  1. Wow, is that a bullfrog tadpole??? I think it is. Wetlands and meadows behind your house, that's great. What a great week you are having.

  3. What a fun place to visit! A nature scavenger hunt sounds great. I'm sure long division is much better outside. :) It's really beautiful in your neck of the woods. Have I mentioned that my hubby is obsessed with the idea of moving to Burlington after the older kids are done with school? :)

  4. Very clever...I wish I would have thought of that long division, outside with chalk idea when my daughter was working on that earlier this year!

  5. Looks like a great day!!!

You asked what derby pie is. Basically, it's a chocolate chip pecan pie - and he won first place with it!

You can find a recipe at http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1637,151187-237198,00.html. This isn't the exact recipe we follow, but it's very similar.

    Enjoy!
